Press Release: Mercedes Mighty Tiger Marching Band

I am pleased to announce that the Mercedes Mighty Tiger Marching Band earned a FIRST DIVISION at the 77th annual UIL Pigskin Jubilee, right here in Mercedes on October 19, 2019.  We advance to the UIL AREA festival where we will perform at 4:15pm at the Bobby Lackey stadium in Weslaco.

Our marching show this year was entitled “Dark Skies” and included music from  “Sweeney Todd” by Stephen Sondheim, “New World Symphony” by Antonin Dvorak, “Piano Trio in Eb”, by Franz Schubert, and “the Water Goblin” by Antonin Dvorak.

Other accolades this year include a First division at the Bay Area Marching Festival in Calallen, TX and earning a  First division at the Weslaco Marching Festival in Weslaco, TX.  At the Bay Area contest we were also ranked THIRD out of 13 bands in the 5A division.

Mercedes Tiger Stadium was host to both the 4th  annual Queen City Marching Festival on October 5 and host to the 77th annual UIL Pigskin Jubilee.  It was an honor to host such an event with the support of the entire Mercedes district.

Congratulations to all the band members who began this process during our rigorous summer band schedule and throughout the school year.  Thank you to our Parents and the Mercedes Tiger Band Boosters for all of your support!  Thank you to our band directors who inspire the band to be better student musicians.  And thank you to the community of Mercedes for all of your support of the Band program!

Directors of the band are Guy McKinney, Joe Ayala, Dale LeMarr, Nancy Coronado, Lauro Salinas, JT. Aguilar, Jennifer Salinas, Eddie Rivera, Sam Montelongo, Bonnie Manzano, and Esteban Mendoza.
