Congratulations to our Tiger Tennis team! 🎾🐾🏅 The Varsity Girls team recently took 2nd Place🥈 in Girls Doubles at the Brownsville Tennis Center Invitational! Seniors Abril Lopez and Deborah Coronado proudly represented MHS, striving to make every match count during their final season. 🎓👏 Coach Sanchez recently attended a workshop to ensure that his knowledge of the game remains strong, learning valuable drills and tactics that will help enhance our program. The workshop also focused on inclusive coaching strategies, ensuring that practices can be adapted for athletes of all abilities to ensure that all are able to enjoy the sport. 📢 Friendly Reminder: Mercedes ISD will have a Delayed Start for all schools and offices tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, due to forecasted inclement weather conditions. ⏰Start Times: Elementary Schools: 9:30 a.m. Middle Schools: 9:45 a.m. High Schools: 10:00 a.m. In addition, Staff Start-Time is 9:00 a.m. The Bus Route Pick-Up will begin at 8:00 a.m. and Parent School Drop-Off will begin at 9:00 a.m. Dismissals will remain at usual times. All students will be allowed to dress in warm clothing, such as warm ups, hooded pullovers, scarves and other wintery attire. The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance. If there are any further changes to regular school operations, we will inform families via mass notification systems, across our official social media platforms, and through local news outlets. Mercedes students earn honors at UIL Academic Meet hosted at Veterans Memorial High School in Mission! 📚🐅 🎉 BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our UIL super sophomores, especially Carlie Rabel, who placed 3rd in Literary Criticism and 6th in Headline Writing. Fijlis Estrada clenched 2nd Place in Poetry - bravo to him. 🎉 Double congratulations to Zachary Sanchez, who placed 5th place in Copy Editing, and Adrian Gonzalez for placing 7th in Spelling. 🌟 And, last but not least, congratulations to freshman Keyla Ochoa, who placed 4th place in Ready Writing. This was the first UIL meet of the season, and the team competed against over 35 schools from across the Rio Grande Valley. Excellent job, Tigers! Congratulations to our senior Lady Tigers for being selected by TASO (Texas Association of Sports Officials) to play in the 22nd Annual RGV All-Star game! 🏐🐾 Hayden Ledesma (middle hitter) and Ashley De Leon (outside hitter) will proudly represent Mercedes among other Valley athletes on the 5A East Team. The 5A East vs West All-Star game will be played at the McAllen High School gymnasium this Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 2 p.m. #MISDpride #MISDathletics
