What a school year it’s been for the Mercedes High School RGV LEAD Ambassadors! ✨👏 The Ambassadors recently attended their Spring Leadership Workshop at the South Texas College Mid-Valley campus. Graduating seniors also received their Certificate of Completion for being part of the RGV LEAD program. These students not only demonstrated leadership qualities throughout the year, but are also gaining invaluable skills in teamwork, communication, and community engagement through their involvement in the RGV LEAD program. We are #MISDproud!

BOND FACT: Safety and security is on the ballot as part of Proposition A of the 2024 Bond election. If approved by voters, proposed bond projects at campuses would include upgrades to campus fire alarm systems, renovation of the office and lobby area at Sgt. Manuel Chacon Middle School to secure visitors and parents within a monitored area, security doors at multiple campuses, and access control (to ensure safety mandate compliance.) Mercedes student musicians, along with their dedicated teachers, recently joined flute players from across the region for the first rehearsal of the National Flute Association RGV Fiesta Flute Choir. 🎶🌟 These flautists have secured a spot for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform with a choir of this size at the 2024 National Flute Association Convention in San Antonio this August. Bravo to our Mighty Tiger flute players for proudly representing our district and the entire RGV! We are #MISDproud! 🎶🐅

Congratulations to the Mercedes FFA Livestock Judging Team for their performance at the state-level contest at College Station as they proudly represented MISD! 👏👏 The team placed 27th overall out of 103 chapters at the State CDE Competition, earning Third Place in Area and First Place in District. State-wide, there are over 1,050 FFA Chapters in Texas. This year also marked the first time in Mercedes history that the Horse Judging Team qualified for State. A huge Tiger shoutout to the students, Advisor Eduardo Salinas, and all families and supporters, for their hard work and dedication. It was an inspirational morning yesterday for 115 MECA students and P-TECH/STEM students from MHS as they attended a special screening of 'A Million Miles Away' at Bert Ogden Arena and heard from the first migrant farmworker turned NASA Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez. MECA student Alexakay Pena even had the opportunity to ask Astronaut Hernandez a question and received an autographed book. The Lady Tigers displayed strength and determination at the UIL District 32-5A Track meet last week, giving it their all against some tough competition. We are #MISDproud to share their outstanding achievements: 🐾 Randi Lara earned 6th place in the 3200-meter run 🐾 Alyna Gonzalez earned 5th place Discus Throw 🐾 Mia Gonzalez brought home 6th place Shot Put 🐾 Jaymie Flores took 6th place in the Long Jump, 2nd place in the Triple Jump, 1st place in the 100 meters and 1st place in the 200 meters. 🐾 Isabella Parker brought home 1st place in the High Jump, 1st place in the 100-meter hurdles and 3rd place in the 300-meter hurdles. 🐾 Kenzie Rodriguez earned 3rd place in 200-meters and 5th place in 100-meters. 🐾 Hayden Ledesma earned 6th place in the 300-meter hurdles. 🐾 The 400-Meter Relay team, consisting of Hayden Ledesma, Kenzie Rodriguez, Isabella Parker and Jaymie Flores, earned 4th place. 🐾 The 800-Meter Relay team, consisting of Isabella Molina, Hayden Ledesma, Leslie Gaona and Avie Garza, earned 6th place.
