Getting STAAR ready! 🌟 Mercedes High School students recently participated in a Senior Workshop led by Ms. Martha Morales to review different strategies that they can implement to help prepare them for the English I and English II STAAR tests. Students were actively engaged in learning effective approaches for both reading and writing domains, and we'd like to give a special Tiger shout out to our English teachers for taking the lead to empower our students. 🎭🌟 Bravo to the Mercedes One-Act Play cast and crew for their exceptional performance of Henreik Ibsen's “A Doll's House” One Act Adaptation by Albert Pia at the UIL Zone A Competition on Monday, March 18. Senior Brooke Leal was one of eight actors and actresses to be recognized as an All-Star Cast Member, while senior Ramsey Castaneda and junior Nicholas Espitia-Gamez were named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. Senior Michelle Barrientos also received a Tech Award for her invaluable work on the crew. We are #MISDproud of what these talented Tiger thespians have accomplished this competition season. Congratulations to the Lady Tigers track team for their outstanding performance at the Jimmy Platt Mid-Valley Classic held in Weslaco on March 8. The student athletes brought home several medals and demonstrated skills and sportsmanship. 🐅👏 🐾 Jaymie Floes: 1st place in Triple Jump, 1st in 200-Meters, and 4th in the 100-Meter Dash 🐾 Isabella Parker: 3rd place in the High Jump, 2nd in the 100-Meter Dash and 2nd in 300-Meter Hurdles 🐾 Hayden Ledesma: 4th place in 300-Meter Hurdles 🐾 Kenzie Rodriguez: 5th place in the 100-Meter Dash 🐾 Randi Lara: 5th place in 3200-Meters 🐾 Mia Gonzalez: 5th place in Shot Put 🐾 Alynna Gonzalez: 6th place in Shot Put and 3rd in Discus Throw Our relay teams also excelled: The 400-Meter Relay team (Hayden Ledesma, Kenzie Rodriguez, Isabella Parker and Jaymie Flores) earned 2nd place at the meet and the 800-Meter Relay team (Hayden Ledesma, Isabella Molina, Avie Garza and Kenzie Rodriguez) earned 4th place. #MISDpride #MISDdrive #MISDsuccess

Members of the 1986 Varsity Tigers State Finalist baseball team gathered for a special moment of tribute and remembrance for their head coach, the late Don Derryberry, during the 2024 Mercedes Knights of Columbus tournament. The team was joined by Chris Derryberry, son of the late Coach Derryberry. The team honored the impact of Coach Derryberry’s lasting legacy and the bonds of teamwork and friendship that were forged under his guidance, along with his passion for the game and unwavering commitment to excellence. March is Music in Our Schools Month, and our high school bands set the stage for a month of musical celebration as they played their UIL Concert programs at the Queen City Band Festival at the MISD Auditorium last night. 🎼🎶🎺 The event not only gave the Tiger musicians a platform to share their hard work with a community audience, but also provided valuable feedback for improvement as they prepare for their UIL evaluation at the end of March. Mercedes High School kicked off Texas Public School Week with an informative Open House and 4th Six Weeks Report Card Pick Up Night. 🌟🏫🤝 Parents and guardians had the chance to connect with teachers, gain insight on their student's progress, and explore the opportunities offered at the campus. Guests were also provided refreshments by CTE culinary students, adding a flavorful touch to the event. Thank you to the MHS leadership and staff for the evening of engagement and connection!
