Online registration is now open for the 2024-2025 school year! 📚✏️ If you need help with school registration, our Mercedes ISD Family & Community Engagement parental liaisons are providing assistance at the district’s Registration Intake Center, located at the Mercedes ISD Auditorium, 837 S. Ohio. UIL Sweepstakes win for the Mercedes Tiger Wind Ensemble! 👏🎶🏆 The Wind Ensemble celebrated a perfect score of straight 1s from judges at this week’s UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations. The ensemble is under the proud direction of Mr. Guy McKinney. 📚✨ National Reading Month is all about embracing the joy of reading and highlighting the importance of literacy. Taylor Elementary Librarian Lynda Garza extended an invitation to Mercedes High School student leaders to participate in Taylor Elementary's Third Annual National Reading Month celebration. MHS RGV LEAD Ambassadors and FFA members provided a unique opportunity for Taylor students to see the real-world application of reading and writing skills, as well as expose them to new books and authors. Getting STAAR ready! 🌟 Mercedes High School students recently participated in a Senior Workshop led by Ms. Martha Morales to review different strategies that they can implement to help prepare them for the English I and English II STAAR tests. Students were actively engaged in learning effective approaches for both reading and writing domains, and we'd like to give a special Tiger shout out to our English teachers for taking the lead to empower our students. 🎭🌟 Bravo to the Mercedes One-Act Play cast and crew for their exceptional performance of Henreik Ibsen's “A Doll's House” One Act Adaptation by Albert Pia at the UIL Zone A Competition on Monday, March 18. Senior Brooke Leal was one of eight actors and actresses to be recognized as an All-Star Cast Member, while senior Ramsey Castaneda and junior Nicholas Espitia-Gamez were named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. Senior Michelle Barrientos also received a Tech Award for her invaluable work on the crew. We are #MISDproud of what these talented Tiger thespians have accomplished this competition season. Members of the 1986 Varsity Tigers State Finalist baseball team gathered for a special moment of tribute and remembrance for their head coach, the late Don Derryberry, during the 2024 Mercedes Knights of Columbus tournament. The team was joined by Chris Derryberry, son of the late Coach Derryberry. The team honored the impact of Coach Derryberry’s lasting legacy and the bonds of teamwork and friendship that were forged under his guidance, along with his passion for the game and unwavering commitment to excellence. March is Music in Our Schools Month, and our high school bands set the stage for a month of musical celebration as they played their UIL Concert programs at the Queen City Band Festival at the MISD Auditorium last night. 🎼🎶🎺 The event not only gave the Tiger musicians a platform to share their hard work with a community audience, but also provided valuable feedback for improvement as they prepare for their UIL evaluation at the end of March.
